historic performance hall
representing Korean
performance history.

Jeongdong Theater, located in Jeong-dong in Seoul, the hub of culture, is a theater with a long history that is representative in the Korean theater scene. As a second production theater that supports excellent playwrights and theater companies, Jeongdong Theater offers the cultural space where performing artists and audience can get together.

It was first founded to restore the historical meaning and artistic spirit of Wongaksa Theater, Korea’s first modern theater, in 1995 and has provided audience with excellent performances and new experiments of various genres.
In 2000, it launched regular performance for all year round called MISO, the traditional performance show, to promote Korean traditional culture and its outstanding features.

Located in Jeong-dong, the cradle of Korean modern culture, Jeongdong Theater celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2020 and made efforts to expand its roles as a public theater, where more performing artists and audience can meet each other through performing arts of various genres and modern performing art stages.

To enhance its utility and responsibility, Jeongdong Theater changed its name into National Jeongdong Theater. National Jeongdong Theater will provide the audience with first-rate contents and pleasant environment for watching performances. It will also contribute to vitalizing the eco-system of the performing art scene as a “second production theater” by unearthing synopses with great potential and nourishing, supporting and distributing them so that they can turn into high quality shows.

National Jeongdong Theater will be a cultural space preserving vibes of Jeongdong’s history and culture, where performing artists and audiences can gather and enjoy.
