A play focusing on the topics of community, language, and communication
as an academic critic, a mother as a writer, an older brother working on his linguistic thesis, an older sister who dreams of becoming an opera singer, and the youngest, Billy.
What makes this family special is the way communication is done among family members.
Members of this family, or tribe, freely talk about their thoughts and constantly get into quarrels riddled with reproach and criticism. In this cacophony of arguments, the only person who can really listen to others is Billy, the youngest who is deaf. This play talks about the true meaning of “listening,” setting up an ironical situation where Billy has no choice but to listen more diligently because he cannot hear. This work compresses the trend of this age into a family, the smallest unit of society and delivers a valuable message to the audience by developing the ordinary subject of “communication” in a unique way.
